I think what Dean Smith meant with this quote was that he was just helping his players to success in life he wasn't trying to be famous but successful. He's an admirable man, a role model, and everybody respects him.
When you want to success in life you have to do what is right and feels right not what other people think you have to follow your senses.

When you are about to make an important decision, you better choose the right if you want to be successful in life maybe it is not the easy way but it is surely the best way. "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all"
Aristotle

I think this statement means that your heart and your mind have to be coordinated with each other because when you make decisions to do the right thing you have to have the prespective from both sides. Sometimes the heart choose what is better but the mind choose the correct one. Therefore, you have to have both to  actually choose the right.

"Choosing the right is always the right thing to do."
Alex Linares

I think this quote means that choosing the right does not change because of points of view, choosing the right is always the right decision for everyone. It's better to do something that you know is right rather than do something you would like to regret. For example: When you help some old woman to cross the street, everybody will think that you are a good person, but if you just pass by, that is mean and you are going to feel it. Choosing the right is going to take you far.

"It's better to be alone than to be in bad company."
ANON

I think this quote means that bad companies are the worst way to get the right path. Friends help you and follow you  to the right way of life but there are other people that you call friends and they are not. People is fake and sometimes you don't notice it. If you feel in your heart that someone is true with you, those people are friends, but if you don't feel sure about them they are not friends. It's better to do things by yourself than do things with bad people.

Ezra T. Benson

I think this quote means that if you do something that you know is wrong, you are going to feel scared, sad or guilty. For example, when you copy your homework from your classmate, you are going to feel scared of what would happen if the teacher notice it, but if you do your homework you are going to feel proud of yourself.

"I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing,
than to incur the reproach of our consciences."
Robert E. Lee

I think this quote means that is better to do what you think is right than doing something we don't want to do and be sorry with our consience. When you do something that is not right you feel it.
Let's pretend someone is inviting you to ditch school to go to the mall, and you don't want to because you have an important exam. Would you do it? If your answer was NO then it is because you know that is not right, but if your answer was yes you must have big problems because you wouldn't even enjoy your decision because you could get caught, analyze your options and determine which one is the best for your future. Remember your present is the construction of your future.

"The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character."
Margaret Chase Smith

I think this quote means that you don't  have to do the same as other person. You just have to do what you think is right, doesn't matter if other people find that unpopular. When someone has been attacked by someone else, while everybody is laughing you should defend that person because that is the right decision and do not care about people's thoughts. It doesn't matter if they think you are boring, you are going to feel good with yourself.

“My Experience So Far At HPIAM”
